Rev. Deacon John was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on May 13, 2012 by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Port Richey, FL. Deacon John completed his diaconate training in August 2011 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in the Special Program for the Diaconate. The Program trains men who are called to serve our Lord and His Holy Church as deacons on a permanent basis.
Deacon John and Diakonissa Amy moved to Florida in 2005 and joined St. Stefanos as parishioners in 2006. Deacon John served on the Parish Council for 2 years (2007-2008) after serving as an usher in 2006. Diakonissa Amy also served as an usher from 2006 through 2008 and has been singing in the choir since 2009.
Deacon John is a self-employed Civil Engineer and holds registration as a Professional Engineer in seven states. He earned BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Diakonissa Amy is an Osteopathic Physician (D.O., Ohio University) and is a Corporate Medical Director for Wellcare Health Systems in Tampa. Because deacons are primarily in service to their bishop or Metropolitan, Rev. Deacon John was ordained for the Annunciation Cathedral of the Metropolis of Atlanta and has been assigned to regular duties as a pastoral assistant at St. Stefanos.
